Product Tour · Structure and focus
See the shape of the whole book
The corkboard, the outliner, and the synopsis. Your book as cards, as a sortable table, or as pages you can print and mark up.
Sometimes you need to see the structure, not the sentences. Verkilo gives you three ways to stand back from the manuscript and look at the whole thing, then step right back in to write.
The corkboard
The old wall of index cards, without the wall.
- Every section becomes a card with its synopsis and word count
- Drag to reorder and rearrange the book
- Spot the gaps and the pacing at a glance
The outliner
The same book seen as a table. The bird’s-eye pass.
- Title, synopsis, word count, POV, and compile status in one view
- Sort by any column to check pacing and balance
- Jump into any section straight from the list
The synopsis
Your whole story, told in a few pages. It reads like a finished document, not a form.
- Every chapter and scene title, each followed by its synopsis
- The point-of-view character leads each synopsis in capitals, so you can follow who carries the story
- Double-click any title or synopsis to rewrite it on the page
- One chapter or the whole book, whichever you need
Some revision happens with a pen. Export the synopsis as a PDF and take it to the printer.
- A clean manuscript page, on US Letter or A4
- Leave a third of the page blank for notes, on the right or the left
- Add legal-pad lines to write on
- No scene is split across two pages
The corkboard, outliner, and synopsis follow the order of the book. To see the order things happen, across every book in the series, use the Story Timeline.
Common questions
- Does rearranging cards actually move the sections?
- Yes. These views are your real manuscript, not a separate planning space. Move a card or a row and the section moves with it.
- How is the outliner different from the corkboard?
- Same book, different angle. The corkboard is visual cards for arranging; the outliner is a sortable table for scanning detail like word counts and POV.
- Can I print the synopsis and write on it?
- Yes. Export it as a PDF on US Letter or A4, and leave a third of each page blank for your notes, with legal-pad lines if you like. No scene breaks across two pages.
